Design is people work. It’s all about attention and creativity. About loving the work and about empathy. About knowledge, fresh ideas and perfect execution. And that’s exactly what Brum is committed to.
Our team is a wonderfully diverse bunch of characters who complement and learn from each other. We range from experienced old hands to youthful talent and from conceptual thinkers to sticklers for detail. This mix enables us to come up with the best ideas – and the most attractive packaging.

Pieter studied Industrial Design at Delft Technical University. He worked for some years as a marketer and gained his NIMA-C (Dutch Marketing Institute) qualification. He has been working at Brum since 2003. Unlike most, he doesn’t know his way around Illustrator or Photoshop, but fortunately he has other qualities. He claims. Apparently in sufficient quantities to have been co-owner of Brum since 2009.
Just for fun he enjoys::
Rowing 100 km non-stop
Wake him up any time for::
Fresh figs
We recruited Tessa as soon as she graduated from HKU art college in 2008. Turned out to be a great decision. She might be a dreamer, but she developed super fast. Sadly, not as a concert pianist, which she would have loved to have tried. Notwithstanding, she became co-owner of Brum in 2016. One of our blondes who you underestimate at your peril!
Her idea of happiness::
Animals and great food, but not at the same time because she’s a vegetarian
Catchphrase::
Yes, but we could also…
After graduating art college in Rotterdam, Xander worked on multimedia, corporate and packaging design. We took him on board in 2011. What he loves about packaging is being forced to fit the entire story on a small surface. He’s always very laid-back, but his designs are extremely refined. His sons are also super creative, so we’re already preparing a couple of placements.
Hidden talent::
Glancing at the clock at precisely 11:11
His superpower of choice::
Invisibility
Erik has amassed a goldmine of knowledge in the course of his lengthy career. He’s been working at Brum since 2007 and he can explain to any newbie in minute detail the difference between one printing process and another. His house is in the middle of nature and whenever he can, he cycles to work. Which is not next door.
Wake him up in the middle of the night for::
Snowboarding on a thick layer of newly fallen snow
Guilty pleasure::
Slow cooking followed by slow TV
We had already known Marc for years as the project manager at a major photography studio. In 2009 we took him on board. He keeps a watchful eye on everything and maintains calm in our chaos. In the army he drove a tank – perhaps that’s why his work is so precisely targeted and why he’s so good at roaring. With laughter, that is. Thing is, Marc believes an abundance of jokes and fun pranks is good for you.
Favourite music::
Dream Theater
On his bucket list::
One more shot from a Leopard 2 tank
Verborgen talent::
Multilingual zijn
Favoriete bestemming::
Overal waar het warmer is dan 25 graden
Albert has been Brum’s central nervous system since 1999. He doesn’t believe in challenges, he says, but he does believe in problems. Which he goes ahead and solves. He seems capable of writing a script for anything. He studied cartography and has also been a butcher and a mediator. Of course, we wouldn’t have hired him without those skills.
The best motivator?:
No such thing as impossible.
Fundamental geographic principle::
If it exists, I’ll find it.
Saskia discovered very early on that she and university were not a good match, so she went for creativity instead. She started as a designer in the analogue age. But make no mistake, she knows the latest Adobe tools like the back of her hand. She’s great with the bigger picture but also with those tiny details that make all the difference. Brum has benefited from her excellent intuition since 2000.
Avid collector of::
Hippos (not real ones, don’t worry).
Cannot live without::
Daily portion of fresh fruit from home.
Is in haar vrije tijd::
reisleider voor motorreizen
Grootste wens::
een reis naar Japan
Ninke’s career began in education where she managed a class of 30 little kids. After that she transitioned into marketing. That was a combination of skills that we thought was perfect for managing our creative squad. Ahem, our projects, of course. With true Rotterdam grit, she has watched over our planning and budgets like a hawk since 2016.
Favourite activities besides her job::
Flamenco dancing and travel
Wake her up any time for::
Risotto with mushrooms, truffles and parmesan cheese
Vijay has been commuting to Woerden since 2010 to toil for Brum. With unswerving faithfulness he never rests until he has dotted every last i. He has a predilection for the concrete, but he’s more flexible than you’d think. Even though he was born and bred in Rotterdam, he moved to Amsterdam. For love. If that isn’t romantic, we don’t know what is.
Special achievement::
Polishing off a large Milka bar in half an hour
Eva is a walking encyclopaedia of food facts. Not only does she enjoy cooking, she’s also quite the handywoman and likes to build stuff too. Plus she has an amazing talent for watercolours, drawing and illustrating. In fact, she loves to combine digital and old-school analogue techniques in her designs. In 2016, six months after graduating in Communication and Multimedia Design, she joined our team.
Loves to read::
Cookery books in bed.
One day, she’s going to sign up for::
Masterchef Australia and Hunted UK
Mirte is happiest when she’s making things. After graduating from art college, she did some free work and then stumbled upon the world of packaging. She has been producing fresh concepts and surprising ideas at Brum since 2018. She still produces as much free work as possible. You could say it’s an addiction, but fortunately a harmless one.
Favourite quote about creativity::
The more you use, the more you have (Maya Angelou
Guilty pleasure::
Cookie dough ice cream!
After graduating from Grafisch Lyceum, Nancy was thrown in the deep end at an ad agency. Following her experience there, she joined Brum’s studio in 2002 and since then she’s become a genuine senior. Work-wise, that is. She loves helping people look for design solutions and she still likes jumping in the deep end. Preferably wearing an aqualung, though.
Weekly ritual::
Home disco every Sunday morning!
Negative trait::
Veeeeery impatient …
Margo is often the first impression we make. She’s been answering the phone since 2003 and serves all our visitors fresh coffee and cookies. All with a smile, of course! She also takes care of the administration and ensures we have a delicious lunch every day. In other words, we wouldn’t survive without her.
The love of her life::
Her grandson ;-)
Favourite activity::
Let’s go outside!
Auke maintains balance on board. His door is always open and in the meantime he makes sure all the bills are paid. He’s been commuting weekly between his Brum family and his own brood in Zeeland since 2007.
What he loves doing::
Walking his dogs in the dunes or on the beach
Only turns up for lunch if there are::
Hard-boiled eggs
Verborgen talent::
Ze zou willen dat dit zingen is. Helaas…
Kan niet zonder::
Favoriete kleur::
Glitter
Guilty Pleasure::
RuPaul’s Drag Race
Ochtendritueel::
Eerst mijn bril zoeken, daarna zien we verder!
Guilty pleasure::
Sportmotto::
rennen doe je alleen voor spinnen
Lievelingseten::
1. kaas, 2. kaas en 3. …kaas!
What makes us happiest of all are partnerships that lead to impactful packaging. Sometimes we win prizes. And let’s be honest about it, that also makes us feel just a little tingle of pride.

Copics never go out of fashion
In 1974, Reinier and Eugene established Brummelkamp & Hoekstra, in their attic. The job looked very different back then. Designs were painted manually and the fax machine was a huge innovation. In 2006 Marcel Wammes en Willem van Roozendaal took over. Both were already working for B&H for over 20 years. Six years after the agency was rebranded as Brum in 2010, it passed to Pieter Steenaert and Tessa Oudijn.
